Making Holiday Gifts!
As part of the holiday gift for their mommies and daddies, the children decorated bags last week. This week, the children talked about wanting to put something inside the bags. As the children had been playing with clay and play dough this school year they were interested in salt dough. They were very enthused and wanted to make hand prints. Many friends helped pour and mix the ingredients (salt, flour and water) to make the dough. While mixing and pouring, some friends noticed that the flour was more "yellowish" while the salt was white. Once the dough was made, the children each made a ball and flattened it with their handprint.
Once the hand-prints were baked in the oven, the children chose their favorite pipe cleaner to thread through the hole. They also helped wrap their presents and many friends did it all by themselves!
Holiday Cards
We also made holiday cards to accompany the gifts. The children wrote their names and decorated their cards with stickers, markers and decorative tape.
Decorating the Classroom!
To add a little holiday spirit to our classroom, the children made some decorations. On a piece of butcher paper, the children stuck on different colored stars and snowflakes.
We also decorated different colored construction paper and linked them to make a LONG, LONG line!
Rehearsing for the Holiday Gathering
Throughout the week, we practiced singing the two songs "Jingle Bells" and "We Wish You a Merry Chirstmas." Some friends suggested that we dance and use musical instruments while singing so that is exactly what we did! We talked about the two instruments we would use (tambourine and maracas) and how to use them properly. The children practiced playing them using gentle hands and made sure not to bump their friends with them.
Holiday Gathering
Finally, it was time for the Holiday Gathering. Thank you to all the mommies and daddies who were able to join us!! We were proud of the children for performing the songs well with huge smiles. They also did a great job giving their gifts to their mommies and daddies. We hope you like the performance and gifts- the children worked SO hard on them!
It was such a great performance that Teacher Marsha asked us if we could perform for her today as she could not come to the Holiday Gathering. The children happily agreed and did a fantastic job. Well done Nursery friends!
Chase's Farewell
Today was Chase's last day in our Nursery class. We made it "Chase's Day" where he chose the toys to put on the tables, he chose the books to read and chose friends to sleep with him in the loft. Chase's mommy and daddy brought in cookies which we enjoyed as well. Thank you for the yummy treats! We will miss you Chase!! Please keep in touch!
Thank you again so much for a wonderful, exciting week. We hope you enjoy your holiday and will see you in January.
