Although we had a short three-day week, the children worked very hard in preparation for the big taco party they had been counting down for. When the children came to school on Wednesday, they really wanted to add some finishing touches to the dragon. Michael said he was good at drawing teeth so he carefully drew some pointy teeth on green paper that the teachers were able to cut. Other friends were excited to choose the dragon's eye color. They couldn't decide between blue and green so they chose one of each! After looking through a drawer of materials, they chose pompoms to fill in the eyes with.
Other friends chose to paint sections of the tail that the children had decided on last week. They chose purple, blue, and red. Other friends wanted to fill in parts of the dragon that they had previously colored with pink and black markers and used paint for the job. Then we decided where and how to place the dragon's heavy, colorful tail!
Friends also worked on gluing their practice tacos using a special paste that was messy and fun. We decided to use them on the wall for a special purpose that you can see further down this post :)
Off to the Supermarket
The next day was an exciting day as the children knew we were about to go on an adventure to the supermarket. They all arrived to school right on time and were so excited to head out. Before we left, Mina kindly shared that she had made a map for us to use to find our way to the store! It came in handy, and we were so grateful for her thoughtfulness!
We were also very fortunate to have Teacher Mayuka come along, which the children were so excited about. Along the way, the children stopped to point out and appreciate things they found exciting: buildings, nature, and moving vehicles, especially big trucks.

We took so many pictures of the fun...here's a slideshow of the supermarket excitement (below)!
On the way back, the children observed so many colors of autumn leaves that had fallen from the trees and were excited to collect what they found so we stopped and picked up some of our favorites that we plan to use in the classroom.
THE TACO PARTY
And finally.....the moment we had been waiting for arrived. The day of the TACO PARTY!!! From the moment the children stepped into the classroom, there was excitement in the air. The children loved the different decorations around the classroom and greeted their important guest, the dragon. Some children decided to feed the dragon tacos because they thought he was hungry.
There was a lot of dancing to the song, "It's Raining Tacos" to get the party started! Teacher Jean also came into read the story, "Dragon Loves Tacos" which has became one of our favorite books. Thank you Teacher Jean for coming in to read to us!
The teachers took a photo of each child with the polaroid camera, having the (paper) tacos that they made earlier in the week in the background. Everyone was fascinated that the photo came out straight away from the camera and that it was a "magic" photo as it took a few minutes for the picture to appear! Some children decided to shake the photo as they thought that that would help the photo appear more quickly. We then decorated the background of the photo with "taco" colors (yellow, red, green, orange) and strung them at the entrance of the classroom. The children requested to take them home so please have a look at their moment from the day.
Here is a slideshow of the photos from our Taco Wall of Fame!
It was finally time to start preparing the ingredients and start making the tacos! Wesley's mother came in to help us make them. She helped cook the meat with some delicious seasoning and prepared the tortillas for us. Thank you so much for all your help!!
The children also practiced cutting the lettuce into small pieces with a knife after the teachers explained how to use it safely. We were very impressed with how well they followed the rules and practiced cutting the lettuce safely.
Once all the ingredients were ready in bowls, the children got a chance to see the different ingredients. We explained that there were crispy taco shells and soft taco shells (tortillas) that they could choose from. The children also chose what they wanted to put in their tacos (meat, tomatoes, lettuce and cheese) and finally had the chance to eat them. The tacos were SO popular that some friends had a second taco!! DELICIOUS!
Inside the Classroom
Although it may have seemed this way recently, we are not only about dragons and tacos in our Nursery classroom! This week they also continued building with blocks and Legos, playing with cars and trucks and going on picnics in the classroom!
Outdoor Play
We loved having such beautiful, sunny weather on Wednesday and Thursday. The children enjoyed different activities on the playground.
Thank you for all your help and enthusiasm with the fun this week. The Taco Party was a huge success!! Wishing you and your families a wonderful weekend!
