More Lights and Shadows
To further explore light, the children investigated using different colored cellophane paper and covered the front end of the flashlight to see if it changed the color light coming through. Some of them noticed that the change was subtle while others saw vivid colors. Some friends even added layers of cellophane to see if that made any differences. We love how inquisitive and curious our Nursery friends are! The children also applied clear tape to the flashlights and colored over with marker to see how that affected the light. They were excited to use the darker colors as they expected it to show more strongly and pink was also a favorite ;)
We continued using the overhead projector this week. This time, the children enjoyed seeing their shadows projected very large on the wall as they danced and jumped around. They also made beautiful designs with the light blocks and said it looked like art...Some Nursery friends even became part of the art!
Birthday Celebrations
This week, we celebrated two birthdays! First, we celebrated Michael early, who will have his birthday this summer. His mom read a funny story about aliens who hide in underpants! Happy birthday Michael! We loved celebrating your birthday with your mommy and grandma, and the treats were delicious!
Next, we celebrated Zoe's 4th birthday. She was very excited to have both of her parents join the celebration and her daddy kindly read the book she had chosen from the school Birthday Book program called, "The Odd One Out" and her classmates were eager to point out different animals in the book. We ended with some delicious strawberry cupcake treats that were a hit with the children. Happy Birthday, Zoe!
Play in the Classroom!
As the school year winds down and begins to come to a close, the children have been able to choose from more of a variety of materials and toys in order to fully enjoy the rest of their time together. On Thursday, they made a list of things they'd like to do before they finish the year next week. Among the choices were to play with glittery play dough, do some cooking, play with the sand and water table more, and read more books! Your wishes are your teachers' commands, Nursery friends! :)
Children Can Be Photographers Too!
All throughout the school year, the children have shown their interest in using cameras. We have an old camera that no longer works in the classroom but, daily, the children pretend to take pictures of their friends and teachers and even pretend to see the photo they've taken after looking at the back of the camera. This week, they were given the chance to use the teacher's real digital camera to take pictures of each other. After learning how to properly hold the camera (using the strap), how to focus and hold down the shutter, as well as how to stand a certain distance away from the subject in order to get a clear photo, they were excited to wander the classroom and click away. We will continue to allow children who are interested the opportunity to take pictures of what interests them and hope to share their work with you. It is always fascinating to see what they photograph and treasure.
Have a fantastic weekend, Nursery parents. Just under one more week left of school...
